We're a small team with a singular obsession: making the first three seconds of every piece of content count. Founded in Tokyo. Built for the world.
HookFirst exists to solve the hardest problem in content creation: the first 3 seconds. Not the algorithm, not the edit, not the caption — the moment your audience decides whether you've earned the next 30 seconds of their life.
Every resource, template, framework, and piece of research we publish is built around one question: does this help creators win the attention battle before it's already lost?
We don't teach content creation. We teach the entry point — the moment that makes everything else possible.
In 2023, Yuki Tanaka was working as a content strategist in Shinjuku, Tokyo, growing frustrated with a consistent pattern: brilliant content with terrible openings. Videos with world-class production values that were dead within two seconds. Blog posts with groundbreaking insights nobody reached. She started keeping a database — just for herself — of openings that worked and openings that failed. Within six months, patterns emerged that she had never seen documented anywhere.
That database became the foundation of HookFirst Content Lab. What began as a personal research project grew into a systematic methodology for analyzing, categorizing, and teaching hook psychology — grounded in real performance data rather than creative intuition. HookFirst launched publicly in late 2023 and reached its first 10,000 subscribers within 90 days of launch.
Today, HookFirst serves over 50,000 creators across 140 countries. Our content has been used by individual creators with 500 followers and enterprise content teams publishing 1,000 pieces per month. The methodology scales because the psychology doesn't change — only the platform and the format do. We've now analyzed over 2 million hooks, and we're only getting started.
Three core services. One obsession. Everything we offer is designed to help you win the first three seconds.
We continuously analyze hook performance data across all major platforms. Our research identifies what types of hooks are working now, in which niches, for which audience sizes — and why. We publish our findings in our blog, case studies, and quarterly reports.

Founder & Chief Hook Strategist

"The hook is not a technique. It's a form of respect for your audience's time. Every creator owes their viewers a reason to stay."
Platform Psychology Researcher

"Every platform is a different psychological environment. The hook that works on LinkedIn will fail on TikTok for reasons that are completely predictable — once you understand the audience's state of mind."

"A great hook formula should be like a great recipe — precise enough to be replicable, flexible enough to be made your own. My job is to find that balance for every content type and every creator."
Good hook writing is clear before it's clever. We hold ourselves and our resources to the same standard: if it takes two reads to understand, it's not finished yet.
The timid hook fails. We encourage creators to take a position, make a claim, and stand behind it — because safety and memorability are rarely found in the same sentence.
We don't teach what sounds good. We teach what the data consistently shows. Every recommendation we make is traceable to real content performance across real audiences.
The best hook creators are not the most talented — they're the most persistent testers. We build a culture where testing, learning, and improving is more valued than being right the first time.
From short-form video tutorials to deep-dive written guides, our content library covers every dimension of hook craft. New resources are published weekly — and every single one is designed to be immediately actionable, not just informative.
Whether you have 500 followers or 5 million, whether you're making TikToks or LinkedIn threads, whether you're in fitness or fintech — the principles we teach apply directly to your work.
